Dr. MLK-jr: Whom Do Men Say That I Am
Many people see the Dream/Vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a great work in the Civil Rights Movement. It was. But that’s not all. On the 25th Anniversary of the Federal Holiday, we the producers and organizers of the 1st National Tribute on the Federal Holiday/Birthday honoring Dr. King in Memphis, Tennessee, again celebrate his legacy. This time we come forth in High Definition…. “Giving Honor to the Prophet.”
Jesus, who clearly understood who he was, one day in a teachable moment, after doing many great works and performing several miracles asked those who saw him up close and personal, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And the record in Matthew publishes and pronounces the truth.”
Re-branding versus true acknowledgement/vision clarity from God’s perspective is the point of entry for our forward movement honoring Dr. King on this day and beyond. Indeed, we must constantly remind ourselves to always start at the beginning. Who does God say we are? How does God describe us? Please allow me to refer to scripture here.
13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
Some things will never change. Others must be realigned. In the beginning, God called darkness night and he called the light day. No one has changed this.
In the beginning the sun rose in the east and set in the west. No one has changed this. No one can and no one will. God is doing a “Supreme Makeover” and this is a “spiritual recall” to reconciliation and oneness in him.
God called man into the ministry to work in specific functions. The most pronounced are known as the five-fold ministries. Among the many areas in scripture we have no record of a biblical call to the office of civil rights leader. We must help men more greatly understand and to give the highest honor to Dr. King and allow this nation to see how God strategically placed this day on record to us to pray, praise and celebrate what he has done through a 20th Century Prophet. He allowed the day to come in an “off radar” mission but has declared this moment as “now time and high time” for revelation.
On September 11, 2001, our nation was attacked. We saw airplanes as airplanes. Our enemy saw them as missiles. Who had the greatest understanding of the times that were transpiring on this day? What happens when one captures the greatest understanding and vision clarity of the true purpose and the total usage of a person, place or thing? What does this understanding enable us to accomplish, good or bad, for and in the Kingdom of God ? Our adversary knows what power is in the missile of the day of January 17, 2011, our assignment is to both know it and to use it for its highest impact.
A close examination of the King legacy takes us back to the “original template” of reminding us to see who he was from God’s Calling. It depicts the ultimate description of Dr. King at work in his assignment as a God-ordained, Preacher, Prophet, Pastor and Teacher. Yes, his role was carried out in many multi-faceted strategic demonstrations through his teachings, marches, social, political and civil rights initiatives and accomplishments but Dr. King must be honored on this day as a Prophet.
Moreover, we must acknowledge the “prophecy to promise” moment just as significantly as we announce the birth of a child or the birth of a people. This is to testify of the true delivery of the vision/dream. Hence, for where there is no Vision, the People perish. And why would God create people without his vision(aries) and dream(ers) living among them?
We have been divinely guided to pronounce the theme for this day and as we give Supreme honor to our God and hereby proclaim January 17, 2011, a “Supreme Day of Prayer.” On this “Supreme Day of Prayer,” we will thank God for the “prophecy to promise” fulfillment. A National Tribute is scheduled for Indianapolis, Indiana.
These strategic points of information and questions are being documented to assist all of us on this 25th Anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday, to celebrate the truth about Dr. King the prophet, and fully reflect who he was. For flesh and blood hath not revealed this, but our Father who is in Heaven.
